A carport is a roof on steel posts, open at the sides so you can drive straight in. These are the parts you will hear about at the measure.
- Roof sheeting
- Colorbond steel sheets on a gentle slope, so rain runs off to the gutter.
- Gutter
- Catches the rain at the low edge and carries it to a downpipe, away from the car.
- Beam
- The steel that carries the roof across to the posts.
- Posts
- The steel columns either side of the car. An engineer sets their size and spacing.
- Clearance
- The height under the beam. Taller posts give room for a 4WD, a caravan or a boat.
